What does the wind direction mean?

Wind direction is reported by the direction from which it originates.

For example, a northerly wind blows from the north to the south

Also interesting to remember that wind reported is always True, so, not corrected for the local magnetic declination.

Remember: "The meteorologists always say the Truth!"  :-)

At airports located in areas of bigger magnetic declination this can be significant. Thanksfully tower reports magnetic wind directions. But don't forget that the METAR / SPECI / TAF winds are always true winds.

Thanks, I will! I did not think about that subtlety.
